Frequently Asked Questions

As of now, there is no laser equipment that can permanently remove hair. A small percentage of hair does grow back, however, it will be much finer than the original hair and much less. After each Laser treatment, there will be a period of time where you will be hair free. After each treatment, this hair-free period becomes progressively longer. When all your treatments are finished, you will be hair free for an extended period of time, lasting from many months up to a year. While Laser Hair Removal drastically reduces hair growth, we do recommend touch-up treatments every 6-12 months in order to maintain the longest hair free period possible. Out of all the conventional ways to remove hair, Laser Hair Removal offers the quickest results with the ability to cover large areas at once.

The results from laser hair removal last longer than any other conventional hair removal method.

For most people the answer is yes! At Molad’s Laser Clinic we can treat women and men with different ethnic backgrounds and skin types, however, those with blonde or white hairs may be difficult to treat. Since the Laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment of the hair, Laser Hair Removal works most effectively on hair with color. Best results are often seen with thick, dark hair and light skin, but our Diode 810 Laser Technology adjusts to each individual’s skin and hair type, offering safe and permanent hair reduction for virtually all skin tones and hair thicknesses. For those whose skin color is darker than their hair, Laser Hair Removal may not be an option. It’s best to schedule a free consultation in order to determine whether Laser Hair Removal is right for you.

Laser hair removal for women is most commonly performed on the underarms, legs, bikini area, upper lip, chin, abdomen, back, buttocks, thighs, neck, chest, and arms, while men most commonly treat back hair.

Laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Laser hair removal works by using waves of light that are absorbed by melanin (pigment). The light energy is converted to heat which destroys the hair follicles. Diode 810 Lasers are designed for permanent hair reduction. Lasers can effectively destroy hair without damaging the surrounding skin because the hair shaft absorbs all of the heat. This is why treatments are most effective on coarse hair, since coarse hair has a lot of pigment making it easy for the laser to target its energy. Fine hair, such as peach fuzz, has less pigment and cannot absorb much heat, making it difficult to treat.

Before your appointment, we ask that you:

  • Shave the area between 6-30 hours before your treatment
  • Avoid chemical peels or laser resurfacing
  • Exfoliate to remove any dead skin build up
  • Ensure no residue fake tan is present on the skin
  • Avoid excessive sun exposure on area being treated two weeks prior (including solariums or tanning drugs)
  • Avoid using topical creams/moisturisers, perfumes to the area being treated before appointment
  • Do not wax or pluck hairs four weeks prior to laser treatment

The area being treated is always cleansed before we begin. Goggles are provided for adequate eye protection. Although not required, a cooling gel is applied to the area being worked on to facilitate movement of the hand held laser machine. The skin is pulled taut and the procedure begins. The machine is slowly moved over the area to be treated as the laser beam essentially vaporizes the hair at the root.

Frequency depends on your type of hair, skin type and the area being treated. Typically treatments are scheduled at 6-8 week intervals. Hairs have a different growth cycle depending on its location on the body, which is the reason the amount of hair loss varies, since different hairs are at different stages of growth at the time of treatment.

One of the advantages of choosing Laser Hair Removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing or plucking hairs. You might feel a slight tingling sensation with each pulse, which lasts only a fraction of a second. Certain areas may be more sensitive, such as the facial area or upper lip, where it may feel like a rubber band snapping on your skin. All of our laser treatments have advanced cooling abilities to cool your skin before, during and after treatment so as to minimize any discomfort.

All of our clients are free to go about their regular activities after leaving our office.

Post treatment instructions for laser hair removal include:

  • Do not to take a hot shower for 24 hours.

  • Avoid direct sunlight and UV rays to the treated area.

  • Ice may be applied for any swelling you experience.

For laser treatments of the body, most clients will not experience any color or texture changes to the skin. For laser done to the face, some clients may see some temporary, mild redness which may last up to 2 hours or longer. It is normal for those who have particularly thick or coarse hair to see some or all of the hair follicles slightly raised and/or swollen. This usually subsides within a few hours.

You may notice that some of the hairs remain in your skin after treatment. This is because the laser procedure, while destroying the hair follicles, does not actually extract the hairs from the body. Although the hairs are killed at the root, it can take some time for all of the dead hairs to fall out of the follicle. Don’t be alarmed if it appear as if your hair is growing!  The hairs are simply being pushed up through the surface of your skin until they fall out on their own. Don’t try to pull out the hairs. Instead, let them fall out on their own.

Once all of the dead hairs have fallen out of their follicles, your hair-free period begins. After your first treatment, the hair-free period will be brief. However, after each subsequent treatment your hair-free period will last progressively longer. After you have completed your scheduled set of laser treatments, approximately 60%-80% of your hair will not grow back. The remaining 20%-40% of your hair will grow back, thinner and sometimes lighter. After completing multiple laser treatments, our clients experience long periods of being hair free, from many months up to many years.

While many clients may not see hair regrowth for many months or years, some regrowth is normal. However the hairs tend to be much thinner and much lighter.  We are always available to discuss whether another round of laser treatments is advisable to maintain the results.

Results can be seen immediately after your first treatment! You will obviously have less hair.

As we stated earlier, long-term results depend on your hair’s thickness and color, the area being treated, the pigment of your skin and many other factors. Most clients require a minimum of 4-8 laser treatments (depending on age, hormones, etc) to completely remove hair from the area.

At the time, there are no conclusive studies on the safety of laser hair removal for pregnant or nursing women. If you have any questions or concerns about doing Laser Hair Removal, please consult with your doctor. We do not recommend doing Laser on your body while you are pregnant. If you are nursing, we do not recommend doing Laser on your upper body (ie underarms, hands, stomach. There is concern that it might dry your milk)
